The New World Saga takes the traditional fantasy RPG and throws it into the modern world. Think a cross between games like The Witcher and Earthbound, only created by developers not nearly as skilled. We do have a good handle on writing though!
OUR STORY:
Drumbo, Ontario is your normal farmbelt town in an otherwise abnormal world. People work, live, sleep and repeat on a daily basis. This in spite of the wandering Howler monsters near regional highways and other beasties that call the woods and plains home. For every pack of coyotes and wolves preying on farmer’s livestock, you have Griffins and Dire Wolves preying on them.
Despite this, most towns are fairly mundane and boring. If you didn’t excel in your high school courses and pursue college or university, you could always work on the local farm, join the military or become part of the local town posse, protecting the walls from creatures nearby. Typical career paths within the comfort zone for residents of small towns.
Stan Howard and his long time friend Rob Stanton were not ones for following the comfortable path. After being shunned by local employers, Stan began his own Workers-For-Hire business, with Rob being his first partner. Stan’s brother Keith also wants to be part of the business and fight the good fight, but Stan wants what’s best for Keith and to keep him away from this line of work.
Stan’s business model is questionable, but the strategy is sound and they get by with work from regular clients. They get all sorts of grief from nearby town posses, as they’re willing to take on any job near or far at a fraction of the local cost, no matter how weird or dangerous. No questions asked.
However, their low cost and even lower morals seem to attract all manners of shady players. One of these jobs brings to light a national conspiracy during a town hall meeting, which threatens to throw the entire country into chaos and bring an end to Stan, Rob and Keith’s comfortable, but abnormal existence.
OUR CHARACTERS:
The story focuses around three main characters.

Stan Howard is a 20-something year old man from Ontario who wants to be remembered in the world as something other than a failure. He runs a Workers-For-Hire business with his long time friend Rob Stanton, after a political incident in Ottawa set his education and career path off the rails. Following months of training in a small island community in Newfoundland, he returned to his home in Ontario to find that nothing had changed and the stigma of his time in the nation’s capital had never left. Stan decided to put his knowledge and training to use, resolving to start a business and run it better than the local posse.

Rob Stanton is also a man in his 20s who wants to make himself stronger after failing to join his country’s military alongside his brother Chett. Feeling he lives in the shadow of his successful brother, he trains to become stronger and make something of himself. Rob dreams of putting his strength to use and becoming a professional wrestler, but worries he can never succeed due to having no formal training and even less money.

They live with Stan’s younger brother Keith Howard, an 18-year-old teenager on the verge of graduating high school. He has tons of potential, but is unfocused and unsure what he wants to do with his life once he graduates. When Keith and Stan’s parents move across the country to pursue their retirement, Keith asks to live with Stan to finish an extra year of high school courses. Keith is a dreamer who aspires for grand adventure. He wants to work for Stan, help people and fight the good fight. Keith spends most of his time outside of class hanging out with his two closest friends and crushing on girls rather than actually talking to them.
ABOUT THE WORLD OF THE NEW WORLD SAGA:
The New World Saga imagines what the modern world would be like if traditional fantasy creatures had been a regular part of it.
Jobs like the town posse or trained militias are commercially viable because there would be a need to protect towns from smaller breeds of monsters.
Instead of a house getting a rat infestation, they might have to set traps for the Panther Warrior that keeps getting into their basement and stealing socks from their dryer.
Sword and armor manufacturers would have nearly as high a profile as today’s gun and munitions developers.
Instead of large cults supporting demons, these cults instead would have legitimized in the modern day and become large scale corporations, while still trying to summon demons as part of Thursday’s business meeting.
EXISTING FEATURES:
- Take part in several side quests outside of the game’s main storyline.
- Full job system of unique and equally disappointing classes available for use.
- Original art for the game’s many enemies and bosses, inspired by a blend of mythical and modern day influences.
PLANNED FEATURES:
- Expanded cast of party members depending upon your actions in side quests.
- Useless children’s card game mini game. (complete with world threatening villains)
- Strategy game elements? That would be cool.
- Celibacy Drones.
ABOUT THE NEW WORLD SAGA’S SETTING:
The New World takes place in a Pseudo-Canadian Modern Setting, largely similar to the real world.
Many place names are the same as their real-world counterpart. The story however, does not take place in actual Canada, but a fictional one.
Because of this, The story, characters, and incidents portrayed in this production are completely fictitious and sometimes rather silly. Any similarities to actual people are completely unintentional, unless otherwise stated.
To put it simply, its like Forks, Washington, the real town in which the fictional “Twilight” universe is set.
SO WHERE DOES THE NEW WORLD SAGA TAKE PLACE?:
Our story takes place here in Ontario, Canada…

However, if we were to try and develop a game focusing on the entire province, the ignorant masses would be unable to keep pace. (Plus our one developer would likely die from too much work.)
Therefore, we will start here in Southwestern Ontario…

And just to be extra prudent and avoid pushing ourselves too hard, we will go one step further and focus here, on Oxford County and the surrounding region…

Developing one county is a reasonable plan that allows for some leeway for setbacks, don’t you think?
Here’s a better look at the world map so far, using in-game graphics from RPG Maker MV.

Please note that some areas of the game are not included in this map yet. At this time, there are plans to add at least nine or ten more towns outside of the current borders of this map. The New World Saga at this time is very much a work in progress.
