The Spider Demon is another one of our early game boss monsters, meant to be a boss for a side quest very early on in the game.

You’ll encounter this monster in the outskirts of Drumbo to the west side of town. He’s one of the bosses hidden in the Get Lost Woods.

I had to do several tweaks when making this monster, as essentially he is a tarantula flipped upside down. Also, I was hoping his big monster eye would give off a Resident Evil monster vibe.

As I was making this monster, I thought how neat it would be to keep this design, but make it more of a skeleton creature.

This variant was the result of that.

And now for some fun.

While working on this creature, a co-worker and I were talking about some of the classic horror video games for Nintendo, so stuff like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. He explained to me how the newer Friday the 13th game actually made a character skin for Jason that was based on his colors from the NES game, Bright Purple and an off-blue.

After much laughing, I decided I also needed to make a variant for this monster with those colors.

And so, The Jason Spider was born.
