Completed Project – Modern World Cars

Today’s project started innocently enough. See if I could draw a car to be used on my game maps. I looked at a few different examples of top-down cars used in games that came out in the past (Ghostbusters, the old Grand Theft Auto games, etc.) and then went about designing my own.

This turned into drawing every possible version of cars that I could think of. Different colors, taxi cabs, police cars, stretch limos and vans. Each of the vehicles I made sure measured out to 96 x 48 pixels or the size of two RPG Maker MV spaces side-by-side.

Then THAT turned into drawing a larger scale version of one of the main character Stan’s car. At first, I drew it like any other car, but then I realized that I was making Stan’s piece of crap car. So I needed to make sure it wasn’t perfect, adding some rust and even a cracked back window for good measure.

And of course, making Stan’s car led to making other large scale cars, including a police car. I even jokingly made a draft of an undercover police car, which reminded me of the undercover FBI agents from the movie Matilda.

From there I went back to doing up a 4-wheeler, which was a unique challenge. An ATV is definitely not the same size as a car, so that should be reflected on the world map. In any case, I found a picture of a 4-wheeler to attempt to emulate and this was the result.

Each of these 4-wheelers are slightly smaller than 48 x 48 pixels, which is a single space in RPG Maker MV. At some point, I’ll need to redesign these to add a person riding them, but that’s Future Jeff’s problem.

Still got to sit down and try to design an army vehicle at some point. I’m sure I’ll get around to it as I work through a myriad of items that still need to be made.
